Renault completes its 2012 lineup
The Renault F1 Team today announced its name change to Lotus Renault GP, as well as presenting their complete 2012 driver lineup, consisting of the earlier announced Jonas Andersson, and newly signed Jörgen Ekroth. The name change came as a result of Renault selling the team to Genii Capital and Group Lotus plc, while remaining as engine supplier. The deal also marked the return of the Lotus name to Formula 1. Extending both driver contracts from last year has been an important strategy for the team, which aims to preserve consistency both on the driver side as well as on the team staff side, while the owner structure and management undergoes changes.
Eric Boullier, Team Principal
It is with great pleasure that I present Jörgen as part of our team for the next season too. He has been a real asset to us this season, like Jonas, scoring points in every race he has taken part in, and he has also contributed a lot to the development and progress of the R30. It is that kind of dedication and consistency we value a lot, and the cooperation and teamwork with Jonas has worked exceptionally well too, which has helped us tremendously in securing third place in the 2011 Constructor's Championship.
I'm both happy and proud to be part of the Lotus Renault GP team for next year, and it will be a lot of fun to work with Jonas and the rest of the team staff again. We got off to a bit of a slow start in 2011 but have progressively climbed towards the top throughout the season, with Germany as the very peak. It feels exciting to drive a car which bears the legendary Lotus name too. I just hope we can make it justice. With KERS and DRS as well as new tyres from Pirelli, I think we will have our hands full getting on top of things, but I'm already looking forward to trying out the R31.
