Jonas Andersson to stay with Renault for 2012
The Renault F1 Team confirmed on Monday that Jonas Andersson will be staying with the team for another year, extending his current contract into 2012. The Brazilian has been expected to stay with the team after a strong 2011 campaign which saw him claim fourth position in the championship as well as winning the German Grand Prix. The 2012 season will be Andersson's fourth season with the team for which he has scored 16 podium finishes including three wins.
Everyone in the team are happy to have Jonas onboard for another season. He has become an integral part of the team in the last two years, as he keeps everyone motivated as well as showing his skills on the race track race after race. Next year will be a new challenge with a new tire manufacturer and the introduction of KERS and DRS, but we are confident that we will have a package good enough for Jonas to showcase his true driving skills.
I'm really happy stay with Renault for another year, which was an easy decision for me. The team has made big strides this year and everyone is very motivated to keep making progress, and I think we have the potential to be even better next year. With the new rules there will be a number of good teams next year and I believe we will be one of them. It will be an interesting season.
Renault did not mention who will join Andersson for 2012, but experts believe that a deal with current driver Jörgen Ekroth is in the works.
