Japanese GP: Renault Race Report
The Renault F1 Team had a pretty good afternoon at Suzuka, with Jonas finishing P4 and Jörgen in P6, but it was a lot more of an effort than usual. Jonas had to use his tyres to the maximum to make the one stop strategy work, and Jörgen found himself a little off pace due to not quite being comfortable with the car. All in all it was a good points haul in the constructor's championship though.
Jonas Andersson, P4
Overall, a decent result but the race wasn't that race. I never felt that I could beat the cars in front and I really moved up thanks to the other's mistakes and DNFs. Regarding tires, it was strange that I had so much more wear than Jörgen. It shouldn't be that much. I still think it was the right strategy to go for the one-stopper, because I couldn't had beaten Reiko otherwise. I hope we can improve from here and have a good finish to the season.
Jörgen Ekroth, P6
Definitely a bit of a disappointment, mainly because I never quite got into the driving. Qualifying was good up to Q3, where I suddenly lost pace and never quite found the line again. At the first flying lap I had to negotiate traffic going into turn 1, and on the second lap I put a wheel onto the grass and had to let off. After that I just never could get a clean lap in. A little of the same happened in the race where the car just wouldn't do what I wanted in the first stint. I kept falling behind slowly, and then decided to try and nurse the old engine a bit, which worked well. I got some bonus places when Holkedahl and Locksey retired, so all in all the finishing spot was okay. I wish I had been quicker though. Hopefully we can regain some lost pace in Korea.
